My grandfather loved Sidecars, me not so much, but to be fair he said his first sidecar was made for him by the love of his life, who turned out to be my grandmother. A romantic story about cocktails, which is the best kind of romantic story in my opinion, so this one is for my grandparent on their 50th wedding anniversary. Cheers, and go fall in love.
2 tablespoons superfine sugar
1 lemon wedge
3 tablespoons (1 1/2 ounces) Cognac or Armagnac
2 tablespoons (1 ounce) Triplum or your favorite triplesec liqueur
1 tablespoon (1/2 ounce) fresh lemon juice
1 cup ice
Spread superfine sugar on small plate. Rub lemon wedge halfway around rim of chilled martini or coupe glass. Dip moistened side of glass in sugar to lightly coat outside rim of glass. Set aside.
In cocktail shaker, combine Cognac, Cointreau, and lemon juice. Add ice and shake vigorously until well chilled, about 30 seconds. Strain into prepared martini or coupe glass and serve.
Some cocktails are inexorably linked to their most famous imbiber, Hemingway and the Daiquiri, Churchill and the Martini, The Dude and White Russians, and of course the Girls from Sex in the City and the Cosmo. I love Cosmo’s, they’re a delicious and refreshing cocktail built for easy sipping and they’re pretty food friendly. Do I get judged for ordering them? Who cares I drink what’s good.
1.5 oz Opihr Gin
1 oz Luxardo Triple Sec
.5 oz Lime Juice
1 oz Unsweetened Cranberry Juice
Add all ingredients to shaker over ice, shake it like a piggy bank holding your last dollar. Strain into coupe and serve. Cheers.
Kanpai to the Chuhai! This is one of the cleanest, most refreshing and lightest cocktails I’ve ever come across and it’s super easy to mix up. If you’re unfamiliar with Shochu, start here and you’ll be super pleased:
2oz Mizu Shochu
1oz Fresh lime juice
2oz Pineapple juice
Mix all ingredients over ice, top with soda water and enjoy.
Like great food, great cocktails start with distinctive ingredients first. Figenza Vodka is an ingredient that has been finding its way into more and more of my cocktails and finally I’ve got a recipe that really lets it shine. Just do yourself a favor and scale this up to pitcher size and save yourself the time. Seriously – it’s that good.
2 oz Figenza Vodka
.5 oz Caravella Limoncello
.5 oz Lemon Juice
Add Figenza, Limoncello, and Lemon Juice over ice in your favorite glass and top with soda water. Garnish with Rosemary and Lemon Slice. Saluti & Cheers!
Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Summer really is here, with the sun and the warmth and the blue skies and everything. The only thing missing is a bright, citrusy, spicy and ultra fresh cocktail…oh wait we’ve got that too.
Tomorrow is World Whisky Day, a totally legit, absolutely real holiday that I didn’t just make up. Seriously though it really exists, and it’s amazing, in honor and to celebrate we will be taking 10% off all of our whiskeys this weekend. And this amazing cocktail recipe should give you some inspiration for your Centzon-Totochtin themed party.
