Moving on Up! Part Deux!!

Wine Tasting, Italian Wine, French Wine, Red Wine, Chateau Vieux Manoir Bordeaux, 2013 Rialze Valpolicella Ripasso, Sodi del Paretaio Chianti, Bag and String Wine Merchants, Lakewood NY, Wine Shop

You can’t beat an old favorite! This week we have three great bottles, old favorites from tastings past, that we’re bringing back into the limelight. With 20% off Italian and French wines and 25% off International Reserve Wines, it’s only fitting that we break out a few of our favorites from these regions.

First, the 2012 Chateau Vieux Manoir Bordeaux offers a palate rich with black and red currants, supple tannins, and an opulent mouth-feel. Not to be outdone, the 2012 I Sodi del Paretaio Chianti comes in with a fresh nose, a pleasing and versatile palate, and soft, mature tannins. Rounding out the lineup is the 2013 Rialze Valpolicella Ripasso; the oak-aged, ruby-red “Baby Amarone” with its nose of red fruit, chocolate, and spice.

Neither fruit forward nor savory, it has moderate tannins and a smooth, delicious finish. Come give these beauties a try and watch us try to contain our excitement over the impending move.

Cheers!

Moving on Up!

Hecula, Benegas, La Montessa, Spanish Wine, South American Wine, Rioja, Monastrell, Red Blend, Weekly Wine Tasting, Bag & String Wine Merchants, Cheers

Hey guys, I found a sure fire way to make wine better in every single way. Through intense focus testing and focus tasting, we’ve found that people like wine on sale more than any other kind of wine. So this week all of our Spanish and South American wine is 20% Off! To kick things off we have 3 of our favorite wines from those regions.
La Montesa is a strawberry tinged, rich, chewy and slightly toasty Rioja that has scored above 92 points every vintage, on a personal note it is one of my favorite wines ever.
Benegas Don Tiburico Bordeaux Blend shows off the beautiful age-worthy character of Argentinian wines, a lithe and ultra well integrated red that would be killer with everything from pizza to Filet Mignon.
Hecula Monastrell is a no brainer, an old vine wine bursting with blue and black fruit and French Oak elegance, at under $10 its worth it by the case!
Cheers!

Seriously Great Wines!

weekly wine tasting, terlato pino grigio, bastide miraflors, parallele 45 cotes du rhone, wine lover, bag and string wine merchants, lakewood ny, cheers

If I had to choose a place to live in Wine Town, it would be at the intersection of High Quality and Low Cost. This week we’ve got three wines that would be there with me, including a perennially over achieving 93 Point Cotes Catalanes.
First up is Terlato Pinot Grigio. Now I like Pinot Grigio as much as the next guy but to be honest it’s not always exciting, except this bottle bucks that trend, it’s uber refreshing with ripe orchard fruit, clean citrus and bright but not overwhelming acidity.
Bastide Miraflors is a 93 Point opulent beauty, a singular wine with generous sappy berry fruit and soft floral notes, this wine is basically one of the greatest values in the wine world, a point brought up time and again in the Wine Advocate review of this bottle.
Finally we have Parallele 45 Cotes Du Rhone, a wine I would call a baby Chateauneuf du Pape. Medium bodied and richly saturated with blackberry and asian spice, the wine just feels soft and delicious on the palate and yet retains a high degree of elegance.

Drinks $$$$, Costs $

Weekly Wine Tasting, Kermit Lynch Wine, Veramonte Wine, Burgo Viejo Rioja, Spanish Wine, Rioja, Red Blend, Vaucluse, Spanish Wine, Wine Lovers, Value Wine, Bag and String Wine Merchants, Cheers

Here’s how I look at things: Wine is subject, value isn’t. Certain producers, regions or importers have their finger on the pulse of great wine and great value. This week we are featuring three screaming wines that combine the tastes you love with the price you want!
First up is a wine from the importer/wine maker Kermit Lynch. This Viognier-Chardonnay blend wallops you with sophistication and depth, combining creamy vanilla with ripe pear, lemon curd and orchard blossom while retaining refreshingly buzzy acidity.
Burgo Viejo’s Crianza Rioja, falls in that sweet spot of Rioja wines, where the sweet oak influence and aging are in perfect harmony with an amazing display of sunny plum and warm strawberry with a dash of black pepper, violet florals and subtle vanilla — a wine this satisfying under $10 could only be Spanish.

Finally Veramonte’s Red Blend from the rock-star wine maker Agustin Huneeus is a killer deal. Syrah, Cab Sauv, Carmenere, Merlot and other varietals combine with Chile’s signature smoky mineral soil to offer a ripe fruit bowl of a wine with an obvious and oaky nod toward Napa. With food or by itself this is a stellar bottle of red under $10.

Kermit Lynch Vin de Pays de Vaucluse: Normally $13.99 Now $9.99
Burgo Viejo Crianza Rioja: Normally $14.99 Now $9.99
Veramonte Red Blend: Normally $12.99 Now $9.99

New and Unexpected!

Weekly Wine Tasting, Shannon Ridge Sauvignon, Ca'deCalle, red wine, Erste-Meuer, white wine, wine lover, Bag and String Wine Merchants, Lakewood NY, cheers

This week we’re featuring a couple of whites that have that summer porch vibe, when wine is in a juice glass and not stemware. On top of that is an ultra-plush and pleasing Malbec/Cab blend  up to 50% off!
First up is Shannon Ridge Sauv Blanc, California through and through, this wine absolutely bursts with a nose of ripe white peach flesh, zested lemon and sun-warmed grass, the palate delivers all this and more, with hints of jasmine and lightning acidity. The last vintage was a Wine Enthusiast Best Buy, and this one is even better! Next up is Erste-Neue Muller Thurgau, an over-the-top refreshing bottle of white with a palate of green grape, raw almonds and slate minerality. Finally Ca’ de Calle Red Blend from Mendoza combines the best of Cab Sauv, Malbec and a touch of Petit Verdot. This wine is rich with plum, cassis, black cherry and silky-soft tannins with a touch of French oak to add depth and structure — plus, it’s is on sale this week, but even at full price is a steal.

The Hunt for Reds in October – Week Five

Bag and String Wine, Red Wine, Vino Tinto, Hunt for Red October, Wine Tasting, Lakewood NY

What’s black and white and red inside? …This week’s selection of wines!

This Iron Curtain of red wines will surely fall if we each take up arms (wine glasses), and do our part (drink some wine).

In all seriousness it is with a raised glass and a hearty toast we send off the Hunt for Reds in October, not with a whimper but with a bang for your buck.

Every single bottle from this month’s varied and ongoing selection will be on sale again until October 31st.

This isn’t a trick, just a treat from us to you, thank you for your support for the first annual Hunt for Reds in October. And don’t forget to stop in for one last amazing all red tasting, Thursday and Friday from 4 to 7pm.

Cheers!

The Hunt for Reds in October – Week Four

Bag and String Wine, Red Wine, Vino Tinto, Hunt for Red October, Wine Tasting, Lakewood NY

In Soviet Russia, joke tells you!…Ok we’re no Yakov Smirnoff. However, we do command a Red Army thousands of bottles strong, and we might be letting it go to our heads. Seriously, if this line up leaves you seeing red, you’re probably just looking through your full glass of garnet goodness.

Just look at what a doozy of a tasting we have this week. How would you like to try a rich smooth Priorat under $20, a Spanish blend aged in ex Pappy Van Winkle barrels, and a 94 PT Cotes du Roussillon from this quarter’s Collector Cub?

Those aren’t even all the bottles we’re opening this week, heck, even all the bottles in this picture aren’t all the bottles we’re opening, so if you like the promise of stellar wine with a chance of surprise this is your lucky tasting.

Join us Thursday and Friday from 4 to 7pm and see for yourself…

Cheers!

The Hunt for Reds in October – Week Two

Bag and String Wine, Red Wine, Vino Tinto, Hunt for Red October, Wine Tasting, Lakewood NY

The Red Army is back with five more Ivan Drago level contenders, but I think with a corkscrew and a wine glass we can take ’em down.

This week we’ll be opening several bottles that we’ve never done at a tasting, including a super plush Cali Cab Sauv from Banshee Vineyards second label Rickshaw, a rich Malbec blend from Mendoza, and a trio of Monastrells that will be a killer way to taste the differences in vintage, region, and style, and one of the wine club Bordeauxs from this month.

All these wines will see serious discounts and might just be joined by a surprise bottle or two.
Stop in and check the selection, and most importantly try some free wines!
